We're running Men & Mice on a Windows server (2k3), and several times now have run in to the following issue:

Through the Men & Mice console (v. 5.0.3.0) a domain is deleted from the system and removed from the secondary DNS server. The domain is successfully deleted and is removed.

However, a few days later the domain name reappears in the DNS listing. Trying to open the domain results in an error that the domain file doesn't exist. Deleting the domain removes it for another couple of days, only for it to return again. This has been going on for a while now, and it up to 9 domains returning.

I've even gone so far as deleting the .DNS files from the windows dns directory, but even doing that has no affect as the domains all keep returning.

What am I missing here that keeps the domains returning?

Hello Jason,

this might happen if the DNS Zone is an AD integrated zone, or is an special Microsoft infrastructure zone (used for Active Directory). If there is an AD running using the zone content, the AD Domain Controller will recreate certain records if they have been removed.

It might also be possible that another tool in your system is recreating the zones. If a zone appears, the Men & Mice suite will pick up the zone and will display it.

Please check the Event lo on your DNS Servers if there is a hint who or what is recreating the DNS Zones.
